CPS Visitation Centers provide supervised visits between parents and children who are actively involved with Child Welfare Services and foster placement. The Centers are located in Waipahu and Waianae. The goal of the program is to increase the likelihood of family re-unification through supportive parenting strategies and supervised visitation.
Transportation is provided for the children in out-of-home placement (foster care and residential institutions) to and from the scheduled visits.
Supervised visitation may occur within the Waipahu or Waianae PACT locations. In certain cases, visits may also occur in the community and/or in the home. During visitation, the Visitation Specialist is responsible for role modeling appropriate parenting skills and intervening when communication is not appropriate or when safety is compromised.
Referrals for CPS Visitation services are done by the CPS worker through the Comprehensive Counseling and Support Services. All families referred must have an active CPS case, reside on the island of Oahu, and have children in out-of-home placement (foster care and residential institutions).
All visiting parents must be over the age of 18 in order to receive services. Visiting parents under the age of 18 may receive services if his/her parent/guardian sign a consent form. Once a referral is received, the Program Coordinator will contact the visiting parent(s) to schedule an intake interview.
